I worked in BKK on and off for five years, sometimes staying for six months at a pop, and found this tail very credible and know hundreds with similar experiences.

The tourist police are different than the regular police. If the tourist police are unavailable, then go to the regular police. NEVER PAY EXTORTION.
Also, never pay any attention to someone who meddles in to “help,” it is likely they are part of the scam.

@BETO1BETO2 you haven’t heard of it because it has never happened to you, it happened to me and my friends, the policeman stopped us and told us to pay 100 baht, at the customs before Bangkok city, i lived there for 3 months so i’ve been in various situations. There was also one time at the apotechary i wanted to take a vaccin and they charged me for something they hadn’t mentioned because i came there for the first time and there was a price for that, and that was like 1000baht
I am getting ready for my next trip to Patts, Patts is safer than my own neighborhood,there are a few rules though:
1. don’t get too wasted
2.don’t rent jetski
3.respect their culture
4. stay away from LB unless you’re into them

I am not saying that corruption doesn’t happen in Thailand; corruption happens like in any other country at different levels, but I’ve never heard of anyone getting charge 100b to pass tru, unless of course you were bringing illegal stuff into the country in which case 100b won’t make it.

Me and my friends got stopped by a policemen when we arrived at the customs before Bangkok city, the policeman told us to pay 100 baht before we could pass, corruptioN!
I must be the luckiest expat in Thailand, with the luckiest friends cos after 17 years here, 100 trips to Pattaya the worst thing that has happened to me is being charged for an extra bottle of water when I checked out of a hotel
I have 100+ friends living here that I have know for 1-17 years and I cannot think of one incident that was anything like you have described.
